SEASIDE (Jan. 15, 2016) -- Seniors
Alexcia Mack and
Chelsea Austin led the Coyotes with 14 points each and fellow senior
Brianna Harden earned a double-double, but those outputs did not result in a win in a 61-60 loss to host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday night.
THe loss snapped the Coyotes' winning streak at four. CSUSB (8-5, 5-4 CCAA) looks to start a new streak in Saturday's contest at league-leading Cal State East Bay.
The Otters overcame a five-point deficit with less than five minutes to go in the game and improved to 7-8, 3-5.
CSUMB produced an 11-2 run down the stretch and led 59-55 with 14 seconds to go on a McKenna Hill free throw. CSUSB's
Sophie Bhasin scored her only points of the game with a 3-pointer four seconds later to give the Coyotes a chance, trailing by a point at 59-58.
Mack stopped the clock with a foul on Stephanie Sack with eight seconds left. Sack then hit both free throws to push the Otters' lead to three.
Harden scored on a put-back with time running out for the final difference.
The Coyotes trailed for most of the game, and seemed to grab control with five-point leads in the fourth quarter, the last when Austin hit a jumper that put CSUSB up 53-48 with 4:35 left.
But that's when the Otters answered back with their pivotal run.
The Coyotes shot just 36.4 percent from the floor on 24 of 66 shots.
Harden had 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Chelsea Barnes had 10 points.
Hill led the Otters with a game-high 19 points.
