Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 5, 2015) -- A pair of early first-half goals were not enough for the Coyotes on Saturday afternoon, who were tied 2-2 in their nonconference women's soccer against Dominican at Coyote Premier Field.
CSUSB (1-0-1) had early momentum with two goals inside the first 11 minutes of the contest.
Freshman
Alyssa Campa put the Coyotes on the board in the 5th minute on a feed from fellow freshman
Denae Verdine.
Then, six minutes later, senior
Melanie Aguayo ripped a shot from the left side on another feed from Verdine and CSUSB had its 2-0 lead.
The game remained in favor of the Coyotes, until Dominican stormed back with a spirited late effort.
Lauren Gollnick scored two goals of the bench -- her first at the 83rd minute on a parallel end line from GK
Megan Vina's right side and the Penguins pulled to within a goal.
And less than two minutes later, she struck gold again on a feed from Rachel Stowell.
DU had five shots combined in the overtimes and the Coyotes had three, but neither team could gain an advantage.
The Coyotes out-shot the Penguins 18-14, but DU held the advantage on corners, 6-1.
Vina had five saves for the Coyotes in her first start.
The Coyotes return to Coyote Premier Field on Tuesday when they face Dixie State. Kickoff is 11 a.m.
