McIntosh picks up 2nd school record in 3-1 win

Box Score SAN MARCOS (Sept. 19, 2015) -- Senior All-American Brenna McIntosh became CSUSB's all-time leader in career blocks as the 14th-ranked Coyotes defeated host Cal State San Marcos 3-1 in CCAA volleyball Saturday afternoon.

McIntosh had four block assists and that effort bumped her to 500 total blocks in her career, two more than former All-American Kim Morohunfola.

But it wasn't just McIntosh's block total that made this day memorable for the Coyotes, now 8-2 overall and 1-1 CCAA. She and fellow middle blocker Malika O'Brien combined for 37 kills, just two errors in 61 total attacks. McIntosh led with 20 kills and O'Brien added 17.

Senior OH Alexandra Torline pounded 16 kills with a team-high five block assists in the 27-29, 25-21, 25-17, 25-21 victory over the Cougars (3-8, 0-3).

The Coyotes hit .331 for the match with 67 kills, thanks to 53 assists from freshman setter Jayann DeHoog. Sophomore Heather Sawchuk moved into the libero position for the first time in her career and responded with 21 digs, including nine in the first set.

CSUSM came back in the opening set after trailing 23-21. The set was five times in the late going until the Cougars rallied after a 27-27 tie.

CSUSB fired up .357 on the attack in the second and allowed just one lead change. O'Brien, Torline and McIntosh all had five kills in the second.

The Coyotes forced nine CSUSM attack errors in the third, and balanced play on offense with Solis, and McIntosh, O'Brien and Torline all placing three kills led to the eight-point win.

Then in the fourth, Torline and McIntosh each had six kills and the Coyotes had only one attack error for the victory.

CSUSB returns to play Tuesday night at UC San Diego. The Tritons defeated the Coyotes 3-1 this past Tuesday.

McIntosh now owns career records in solo blocks (99) and total blocks (500). She needs five block assists to own that record as well, held by Morohunfola (405, 2000-03).
