Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (April 2, 2015) -- The Coyotes were cruising along with a four-run lead, but visiting Cal State Stanislaus answered with a five-run eighth inning in its 5-4 win in CCAA play Thursday night at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes (6-23, 4-16 CCAA) and Warriors continue their weekend series with a doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. Friday.
Warren Fishback got the Coyotes off to a great start with a three-run home run in the first.
Kevin Meriwether (walk) and
Grant Buchanan (single) reached base with one out and that brought up Fishback, who launched a shot to left.
Two innings later,
Jose Hernandez delivered a one-out single up the middle that scored Meriwether, who led off the third with a walk.
That four-run cushion seemed to give all sorts of room for sophomore RHP
Tyler Wells. The Yucaipa native scattered five hits through seven innings and entered the eighth. He put runners on second and third before finishing his night with his sixth strikeout.
A call to the bullpen was answered by senior RHP
Ruben Rios, who gave up consecutive doubles with the Warriors scoring three runs. Marcus Mastrobuoni then came up and ripped a two-run home run to left and the Warriors led 5-4. CSUS sent 10 batters to the plate in the eighth with six hits.
The Coyotes had three of their five hits in the first and had just one hit after the third inning -- a seventh-inning single by Meriwether.
