Wells, trying for a complete game, gave up two singles and two walks in the top of the ninth after there was one out. Senior
Ruben Rios came on in relief and after giving up a run-scoring single to the Gators, struck out the next two batters with the bases loaded to end the 2- hour 17-minute game.
Jon-Paolo D'Este and
Damion Edmonds each had two hits to help the 10-hit Coyotes' attack. Chad Thurston was 3-for-3 with two RBI for the Gators. Reliever Joseph Chedid, who replaced Gators starter Nolan Sheridan to start the eighth, took the loss. Sheridan gave up three runs in seven innings.
The two teams resume their series at 2 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader at Fiscalini Field.
