Box Score 2 ROHNERT PARK (March 7, 2015) -- The Coyotes snapped their eight-game losing streak in a big-time way, routing host Sonoma State 10-2 in the opener of their Saturday CCAA doubleheader.
The Coyotes (4-16, 2-9 CCAA) lost their seven-inning contest to the Seawolves, 3-2. The teams conclude their four-game weekend series at 11 a.m. Sunday with a nine-inning game.
Game 1: Coyotes 10, Seawolves 2
Aaron Owen clubbed a three-run home run and the Coyotes out-hit the Seawolves 9-5 in the one-sided victory.
Tied at 1-1 through one inning, CSUSB pushed the advantage its way with a three-run third, thanks to a two-run single by Jon-Paolo D'Este. The Coyotes had three consecutive hits, a two-out single by Grant Buchanan, a run-scoring double by Warren Fishback and the single by D'Este.
The Coyotes added to their lead with an RBI-ground out by Bryce Harrison that brought in Dylan Lohman, who doubled to left.
Leading 5-2 entering the seventh, the Coyotes had their most successful inning of the season. They sent 12 batters to the plate with three hits. CSUSB scored two runs before Fishback and D'Este reached base and Owen went yard to left for the 10-2 lead.
Kamden Haglund (1-3) earned his first victory in a Coyote uniform, going six innings and allowing four hits, two runs (both earned) and four strikeouts.
Reliever Ruben Rios was outstanding in three innings of relief. He threw one-hit ball with five k's.
Game 2: Seawolves 3, Coyotes 2
Down 2-0, the Coyotes came back to tie the game in the seventh.
Fishback and Ryan Rich scored on errors in an inning the Coyotes had one hit -- thanks to Fishback's leadoff double.
But Sonoma State earned the walk-off victory on Mike Macaluso's two-out home run off Coyotes' reliever Dylan Mitchell.
Fishback and Kevin Meriwether had the only hits for the Coyotes.
Sophomore RHP Tyler Wells had seven strikeouts in six innings and gave up two hits, and two runs (both earned).
