Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO (March 31, 2015) -- The Coyotes matched up against No. 13 Cal Baptist on Tuesday afternoon and the Pac West Conference squad proved it can be mentioned among the top teams in the country.
CBU (32-6 overall) extended its winning streak to 13 games in a 10-4 and an 11-3 sweep over the Coyotes at Coyote Park
CSUSB, now 17-17 overall, returns to CCAA play this week at home against Cal State East Bay.Â
Game 1: Lancers 10, Coyotes 4CBU gained control with an eight-run, six-hit fifth inning in which the Lancers sent 12 batters to the plate.
Mary Menicucci gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the fourth with a one-out single through the left that brought in
Melissa Roberts, who led off with a single to third.
But CBU answered impressively in the fifth and scored of all of its runs with two outs. Ashley DeVaere had a two-run home run and Kailey Willingham followed on a solo shot.
CBU extended its lead to 10-1 in its half of the sixth before All-American
Nicole Nobbe made sure the game would be extended to the seventh.
In the sixth, Nobbe ended an 0-for-3 game with a rip to deep center for a three-run home run that brought in Menicucci (walk) and
Monica Maddox (fielder's choice).
Sophomore LHP
Cassandra Williams (11-9) took the loss. All eight of her runs allowed were unearned as the Coyotes committed all three of their errors in the sixth.
She had seven strikeouts and four walks. Four of her seven hits allowed went for extra bases.
Victoria Lievanos and
Arianna Hernandez each had two hits for CSUSB.
Game 2: Lancers 11 Coyotes 3 5 inningsCSUSB grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first, but the Lancers answered right back with 11 straight runs in a game called due to the eight-run rule.
Roberts and
Kaylee Gemmell provided run-scoring singles in the first.
Coyotes RHP
Jamie Nelson retired seven of the first eight Lancers she faced. However, CBU got going with multiple runs in the third, fourth and fifth to win going away.
Lievanos and Roberts had two hits each for the Coyotes. Lievanos had the only extra-base hit for CSUSB, a double in the fifth.
