Wells struggled to get out of the first inning, but when he got settled down he performed brilliantly. He struck out a career-high 11 including six straight and the Coyotes gave him just enough on the offensive end in a 2-1 victory in the opener.
The Tritons came back to win the second game, 10-1 in seven innings.

Game 1: Coyotes 2, No. 15 Tritons 1
Wells did not get the decision, but he did his best to keep his team in the game. He left with the score 1-1 with one out in the seventh and the Coyotes got the job done in the eighth inning.
Damion Edmonds led off the inning with a single to left and the Coyotes got the bases loaded, thanks to a walk to Aaron Owen and a single by Warren Fishback.
That brought up Grant Buchanan, who broke the tie with a sacrifice fly to right.
All told, four CSUSB pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts.
RHP Ruben Rios earned the win, going 2/3 of an inning. Senior RHP Dylan Mitchell secured his first save with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Edmonds led the way at the plate with three hits. Ryan Rich delivered the other RBI for the Coyotes, a bunt down the third base line that the Tritons waited to turn foul.

Lohman scored the Coyotes' only run, on a steal by Hernandez to second, in the fifth.
