Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE (Feb. 4, 2015) -- The Coyotes began both the 2015 season and the Jim Maier era Wednesday night against No. 23 Cal Baptist.
All-American Nicole Nobbe totaled four hits in the two games, but the Coyotes were swept by the Lancers, losing 2-0 and 6-2.
CSUSB (0-2) remains on the road this week at Cal State San Marcos on Saturday.
Game 1: No. 23 Lancers 2, Coyotes 0
Sophomore LHP Cassandra Williams went six innings with eight strikeouts and just two walks, but the Lancers scratched out two runs and those were the difference makers.
CBU worked the bases loaded with one out in the third and took the lead on Kailey Willingham's single to center.
Then in the fifth, Ashley DeVaere led off with a solo home run to left center.
The Coyotes had just four runners reach base and not one advanced past first.
Nobbe had two singles and Alyssa Ramos also singled.
Game 2: Lancers 6, Coyotes 2
CBU scored two runs in second, fifth and sixth innings before the Coyotes answered with their first runs of the night in the seventh.
Pinch-hitter Caitlyn Olan singled to center with two outs, and Nobbe followed by lacing a two-run shot to center.
Nobbe had two of the Coyotes' four hits. Freshman Kaylee Gemmell accounted for the Coyotes' only other hit -- a lead-off single in the second.
Freshman Jamie Nelson struck out three with two walks in five innings. She allowed seven hits and five runs -- all earned. Junior RHP Kacey Cota threw the sixth and gave up one run with one strikeout.
