Box Score SAN DIEGO (Feb. 12, 2015) – Senior
Jose Hernandez hit a one-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning that allowed the Coyotes to earn a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over host Point Loma in nonconference baseball Thursday afternoon.
The Coyotes (2-4 overall) and Seawolves continue their four-game series Friday with a 9-inning game in San Diego. The series concludes Saturday at CSUSB's Fiscalini Field for a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
The Coyotes faced a 3-0 deficit through three innings, but slowly worked their way back into the game.
Damion Edmonds hit a two-out single to short that brought in
Kevin Meriwether, who singled to right, reached second on wild pitch and stole third.
In the eighth inning, pinch-hitter
Spencer Bayless pulled the Coyotes to within a run. With two outs, he singled up the middle on the first pitch he saw to drive in Hernandez, who led off with a seven-pitch walk.
The ninth set up with
Warren Fishback leading off and he hit a triple to left center. One out later,
Dylan Lohman reached on a walk, and advanced to second on a wild pitch that set-up Hernandez's heroics.
Fishback had two hits, both extra-base hits as CSUSB had eight hits.
On the mound, Coyotes starter
Tyler Sloan went six innings and settled down after giving up the three runs through two. He had five strikeouts with three walks and allowed four hits.
Coyotes relievers got the job done with three innings of shutout relief.
Daniel Diaz went 1 1/3 innings and
Ruben Rios threw 2/3rds of an inning with two strikeouts for the victory.
Closer
Matt LeVert threw the ninth. He retired the Seawolves in order with two strikeouts.
