TURLOCK (Dec. 3, 2015) -- The final 10 minutes belonged to Stanislaus State in its 68-64 win over the visiting Coyotes in CCAA men's basketball Thursday night.
CSUSB (2-3, 0-2 CCAA) steps outside of CCAA play next Saturday when it plays at Pomona-Pitzer.
Keith Smith led the Coyotes with 11 points and
Zeke DeBlase and
Juan Martinez each had 10.
The Warriors (2-3, 1-0) fired 55.2 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes, and held the Coyotes to only 11 second-half field goals in their victory.
A
Shawn Joseph layup put the Coyotes ahead 46-43 with 11:11 remaining. But over the next 3 1/2 minutes Stanislaus State outscored CSUSB 11-0 and led 54-46 with 7:42 left.
CSUSB didn't give up and got to within one point twice -- both in the final 30 seconds. A DeBlase free throw cut the Warriors' lead to 65-64 with 17 seconds. But on the next Warriors' possession, Kyle Gouveia threw down a dunk and his team held on for the win.
Kyi Thomas scored a game-high 19 points and Vondel Faniel added 13.
