SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 31, 2015) — The Coyotes snapped their six-game losing streak in grand style, defeating visiting Humboldt State 2-0 in the CCAA reuglar-season finale for both teams.
CSUSB earned goals from
Diego Casillas and
Jose Gonzalez and finished the year 4-9-3 overall and 2-7-3.
The Coyotes wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when Casillas planted himself in front of the box. He gathered a pass from
Stephen Watson, then took a swipe at the ball, gathered himself and struck the ball on the second swipe at the 2:01 mark.
CSUSB took a 1-0 lead into the break and added another goal for good measure in the 76th minute.
Marco Carrillo-Leon fired the ball in to Gonzalez, who was on the left side and struck it to the right.
CSUSB out-shot the Jacks 18-13 and had 11 shots on goal. Five of Casillas' six shot on the day were on goal. Gonzalez had two SOG.
Ivan Sanchez earned the shutout with five saves.
The Coyotes honored their eight seniors —Sanchez,
Dylan Murphy, Watson,
Robert Wagner,
Corey Christ,
Andy Reyes, Gonzalez and
Daniel Lopez — in a pregame ceremony.
HSU finished 1-13-2, 0-10-2.
