Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 25, 2014) — Being at the right place at the right time is
Arielle McCullough's responsibility at her libero position.
She showed all that and more with nearly 10 digs a set in No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino's 3-0 win over visiting Chico State at Coussoulis Arena on Thursday night.
McCullough led with a match-high 29 digs and keyed the Coyotes in their 25-13, 25-20, 25-23 victory over the Wildcats. It marked the 38
th consecutive victory over the Wildcats, a winning streak that began nearly 18 years ago on Sept. 26, 1996.
Junior OH
Alexandra Torline led the Coyotes (7-2 overall, 4-1 CCAA) with 17 kills and senior All-American MB
Tori May had 10 kills on a .625 attack percentage. Collectively, CSUSB hit .359 with 55 kills, 13 errors in 117 attacks.
The Coyotes led from the get-go in sets one and two after an impressive 92 percent sideout effort in the first set, then came back to Earth with 14-of-20 on sideouts in the second.
McCullough entered the night averaging about five digs a set. McIntosh and May dominate at their position and take away dig opportunities with their blocking propensity. CSUSB had just eight block assists in the match, and McCullough stepped up … or dug out … time after time.
Both McIntosh and
Kaitlyn Christner had nine kills each, while sophomore S
Hannah Liserra had 25 assists with fellow S
Ciara Richards dishing out 13.
Abbey Volkommer had nine digs of her own and
Jordan Ortega followed with seven as the Coyotes totaled 59 digs.
McIntosh had three of the Coyotes' eight block assists and Christner and Torline each had two.
Chico State (5-4, 3-2) was led by Shannon Boling's 10 kills.
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night when it takes on Cal State Stanislaus.
