Second-half rally puts No. 19 Coyotes in control

Sophomore Kiana Quarles accounted for two of the Coyotes' three goals in the second half.
Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Sept. 13, 2014) — Sophomore Kiana Quarles showed she was a proven playmaker during the 2013 season when she was named CCAA Freshman of the Year.

On Saturday, the San Diego native created offensive flair with two second-half goals in the 19th-ranked Coyotes' 3-1 win over Dixie State on a day that had temperatures nearing 110 degrees at Coyote Premier Field.

"The win was well deserved today,'' head coach Travis Clarke said. "We worked very hard today and that hard work started to pay off as the game entered the later stages.  I thought Dixie was a very good team and their goal was very nice.  We don't usually get beat in that way so credit to their effort on that play.''

After Dixie State took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute and went into the half with the lead, CSUSB came right back with all three of its goals in the second half.

Quarles got going in the 51st minute on a shot dealt from Susan Ibarra. The goal came front and center from 7 yards out.

Then, she gave the Coyotes the lead for good when teammate Jessica Koch worked the ball parallel to the goal line, and fed off to Quarles, who one-time it in.

Junior Melanie Aguayo completed the scoring on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.

CSUSB (4-0 overall) out-shot the Red Storm 17-6 with eight SOG.

Both Aguayo and freshman Ebony Squire each had thee shots. Quarles and Aguayo had two SOG.

Emily Whyte picked up the win and is now 4-0 as well. She had two saves.

CSUSB returns to Coyote Premier Field on Tuesday when it faces Antelope Valley.

DSU is 1-2-1 overall with all of its games played against CCAA opponents.
