Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior
Aaron Beckley worked the bases to his advantage and it paid off as the Coyotes defeated No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona 2-1 in the second game of Saturday's CCAA doubleheader at Fiscalini Field.
CSUSB, which lost the opener 6-5, is now 11-27 overall and 9-19 CCAA. CPP is 26-10, 19-9.
The Coyotes entered their half of the fifth inning with game tied at 1-1. Beckley led off with a double to right, then timed his run from second on
Kevin Meriwether's groundout to third.
Then,
Nolan Almodovar lifted a single up the middle to easily score Beckley and the Coyotes had their 2-1 lead that held up.
Reliever
Jake Meloche earned the win in relief of starter
Tyler Wells. Meloche threw two innings and gave up one hit.
Senior RHP
Brian Jipp earned the save with one strikeout in the seventh.
Wells threw four innings and gave up two hits with two strikeouts.
In the opener, CSUSB scored three runs in the fifth, then tied the game at 5-5 when
William Ouellette sent a single to center that scored
Mike Massari, who led off the inning with a single.
CPP got the game-winner in the ninth. David Armendariz lifted a fly ball to left for a sacrifice that scored Christian Kelley.
Richard Mount and
Aaron Owen each had two hits to pace the Coyotes' 11-hit attack.
Coyotes RHP
Tyler Rahier threw six innings and had four strikeouts with just one walk.
