Box Score
POMONA -- Senior LHP Kerry Kelley answered the call Thursday afternoon.

The Palmdale native showed once again his ability, going 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball in a 3-0 victory over host and No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona in CCAA baseball at Scolinos Field.

Kelley (4-4) was perfect in four innings and went the distance for the third time this spring and secured his first shutout of his career. He had four strikeouts, just two walks and stymied CPP's bats with a five-hitter.

The victory snapped CSUSB's seven-game losing streak as it takes a 10-25 overall record and 8-17 CCAA slate into Friday's 3 p.m. game at CPP (24-9, 17-8).

The Coyotes gained the lead for good in the fifth inning. Warren Fishback reached on a fielder's choice and moved over to second on a single by Damion Edmonds -- his first base hit of 2014.

CSUSB loaded the bases with one out when Kevin Meriwether reached on an error by the Broncos' shortstop.

That set the stage for Nolan Almodovar, who earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly to center.

That was more than enough for Kelley, who induced five foul-pop outs in the win.

The Coyotes padded their lead to 3-0 in the seventh with a pair of unearned runs. Aaron Owan led off the inning with a single to left. After Fishback reached on a fielder's choice, Edmonds struck with an RBI sacrifice fly to center. Two batters later, William Ouellette hit a two-out double down the left-field line that scored Fishback.

CPP threatened with runners at first and second with one out in the sixth. However, Kelley got a strikeout and another foul pop to close the inning.

Then in the ninth, with the Coyotes up 3-0, Kelley wiggled out of trouble with one out and the bases full of Broncos.

He got back-to-back flyouts and the Coyotes had their win.

GAME NOTES: Kelley leads the CCAA with 68.2 innings ... He now has 54 strikeouts on the season, second best in the league ... All three of Kelley's complete games have come during conference play.
