SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior LHP Kerry Kelley has proven over his last few start starts that he is among the best starters in the CCAA.

Kelley threw his second straight conference complete game, striking out six in Thursday's 4-1 victory over visiting Cal State L.A.

The Palmdale native, now 3-3 on the 2014 campaign, threw shutout ball over 8 2/3 innings until the Golden Eagles broke through with an unearned run in the ninth.

He threw 122 pitches and was as sharp in his final pitches as he was early on.

The game was a shutout for both teams until the Coyotes (9-18 overall, 7-10 CCAA) broke out in the sixth inning.

Designated hitter Brian Lockey reached base on a wild pitch after striking out with one out.

A walk to Nick Oddo and a hit by pitch to Aaron Owen loaded the bases and Lockey came on to score on a wild pitch with Spencer Bayless at bat.

One out later, Oddo scored when Trevor McMaster reached on an error by the third baseman.

Pinch-hitter Richard Mount then laced an 0-0 offering with a clean base hit through the left side, scoring Owen and the Coyotes had their 3-0 lead.

The Coyotes added a run in the seventh on Oddo's two-out double to center that scored Nolan Almodovar, who led off the inning with a snappy drag bunt down the first base line.

Oddo had the only extra-base hit for the Coyotes, who had six hits.

Casey Ryan and Kyle Peralta had two hits each for CSULA (11-15, 9-11).

The series continues Friday at Fiscalini Field. First pitch is 3 p.m.

NOTE: Saturday's doubleheader at CSULA is now set to get underway at 12 p.m. ... Kelley now has thrown 18 innings in his last two CCAA starts with a combined 17 strikeouts.
