SAN BERNARDINO -- The Coyotes strolled out 10 pitchers in Saturday's nonconference game against visiting Point Loma.

All 10 were effective on the mound for coach Don Parnell's squad, but the Sea Lions got the 2-1 victory at Fiscalini Field.

CSUSB (8-18 overall) returns to California Collegiate Athletic Association play Thursday when it begins a four-game series against Cal State L.A. The opener begins at 3 p.m. at Fiscalini Field.

CSUSB grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning when lead-off hitter Kevin Meriwether reached base on a single to right center, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Nolan Almodovar, then scored on a single from Nick Oddo.

PLU came back with a run in the fifth on a fielder's choice with one out. Clinton Harwick delivered a hard smash to first with runners at the corners. Coyotes first baseman Rick Mount went home on the play, but Trey Hunt beat the throw.

PLU grabbed the lead in the ninth. Anthony Torres came through with a two-out RBI single.

Matt LeVert took the hard-luck loss. He was the only CSUSB pitcher to throw more than an inning. He went 1 2/3 innings, striking out three without issuing a walk.

Nick Oddo led the Coyotes at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort. Meriwether had two hits.

Nolan Almodovar had his 16-game hitting streak come to an end. He went 0-for-3 with two sacrifice bunts.
