SAN FRANCISCO -- The Coyotes fought through a 30-minute delay and 12 innings before they were dealt a 4-3 loss to host San Francisco State in the series opener Friday at Mahoney Field.

The Coyotes (3-11 overall, 3-6 CCAA) and Gators resume their series Saturday at 11 a.m., weather permitting.

CSUSB received quality pitching from senior LHP Kerry Kelley and RHP Dylan Mitchell, but the Coyotes' bats could not provide support.

Kelley threw eight innings and struck out six with three walks and gave up three hits -- all singles -- and three runs.

Mitchell came on in relief in the ninth and struck out five in 3 2/3 innings.

William Ouellette and Nick Oddo had consecutive RBIs -- Ouellette with a double and Oddo a single -- to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead in the second.

SFSU came back with three runs in the sixth before CSUSB tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the ninth.

Oddo led off with a single and came around to score on a fielder's choice by Nolan Almodovar.

The game remained tied at 3-3 until Fernando Escobar's two-out single drove in Garrett Heisinger in the 12th.

Almodovar went 3-for-6, while Kevin Meriwether, Ouellette and Oddo all had two hits.
