Coyotes dealt extra-inning loss at CSUDH

CSUSB loses 6-5 in 10 innings

Remington Miller had one of two extra-base hits for the Coyotes.
Box Score CARSON -- William Ouellette led the Coyotes with three hits, but host Cal State Dominguez Hills came back for a 10-inning, 6-5 victory in the teams' CCAA series opener Thursday.

CSUDH's David Steininger hit a game-winning opposite field single with runners on first and second in the 10th.

The Coyotes (2-8, 2-3 CCAA) and Toros (6-2, 1-0) resume their four-game series on Friday in Carson. The series then concludes in a doubleheader Saturday at Fiscalini Field.

CSUSB and CSUDH were tied at 1-1 through four innings until the Coyotes gained control in the fifth.

CSUSB scored three runs on two hits and all runs were unearned for a 4-1 lead.

Kevin Meriwether, who reached on a single through the left, came around to score when a passed ball on the catcher took place with Richard Mount at bat.

Two batters later, Aaron Beckley reached base on an error by the Toros' shortstop, allowing Trevor McMaster (single) and Mount (walk) to score.

CSUDH added a run of its own in the fifth, and CSUSB got the run back on McMaster's fielder's choice that scored Remington Miller, who led off the inning with a double to center and the Coyotes held a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the sixth.

The Toros scored single runs in the sixth, eighth and tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth on a two-out run-scoring single.

Senior LHP Kerry Kelley earned the start and gave coach Don Parnell's team seven innings, allowing nine hits, three runs (all earned) with four strikeouts and no walks.

Nick Oddo accounted for the other Coyotes' extra-base hit -- a two-out double in the ninth.
