Box Score CHICO (Nov. 1, 2014) -- No. 18 Cal State San Bernardino capped a successful road weekend with a second straight 3-0 victory, this time over Chico State in CCAA volleyball Saturday night.
Junior
Alexandra Torline led five Coyotes (16-5, 13-4 CCAA) with kills with 16 and sophomore
Abbey Vollkommer had four service aces in the 25-21, 25-18, 26-24 victory over the Wildcats.
All-American MBs
Tori May (nine) and
Brenna McIntosh (eight) were next in line for the Coyotes in kills, followed by junior OH
Ashley Solis's seven and fellow junior
Kaitlyn Christner's six.
CSUSB hit .301 on 46 kills, just 12 errors in 113 attacks. McIntosh, May and Solis all had attack percentages of at least .318.
CSUSB never trailed in the opening set, thanks to Torline's five kills and Vollkommer's three aces.
The Coyotes gained control in the second set after Chico State cut CSUSB's lead to 16-15.
Torline fired off consecutive kills and after a service error, McIntosh matched Torline's effort and CSUSB led 20-16 and went on to move up 2-0.
In the third set, Chico's Lindsay Quigley gave the Wildcats a 15-11 lead after she had three straight kills.
But that did not deter the Coyotes, who fought back and led 23-21 after Torline's 15th kill.
Chico earned a pair of points -- off a kill and an attack error -- but CSUSB answered back.
Torline and Quigley each had kills for a 24-24 tie, but Solis had a kill and the Coyotes had their 3-0 win on a final Chico State attack error.
Junior setter
Ciara Richards had 41 assists and Torline added the other ace for CSUSB.
Arielle McCullough led the Coyotes in digs with 11 and Richards added 10.
McIntosh had three of the Coyotes' eight block assists and Christner had two.
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Thursday night when it takes on Humboldt State.
Quigley led Chico State with 16 kills.
