Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 2, 2014) — Visiting Cal Poly Pomona played the spoiler's role against the No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Thursday night and earned a 3-2 victory at Coussoulis Arena in CCAA play.

Brenna McIntosh led both teams in kills with 21 and a masterful .486 attack percentage, but this night belonged to the upstart Broncos, who won for the first time in nine seasons at CSUSB and only the fifth time in the last 35 meetings in their 25-20, 14-25, 26-24, 26-28, 15-13 victory.
The back-and-forth contest featured 32 ties and 15 lead changes.
For the Coyotes (8-4, 5-3 CCAA), junior OH
Alexandra Torline had 18 kills and
Kaitlyn Christner followed with 11.
Tori May had 10 with two solo blocks and three block assists.
After dropping the first set, CSUSB came right back to win a decisive 25-14 second set. The Coyotes constructed a 6-0 run, benefitting on three kills from Torline and grabbed a 19-10 lead. Collectively, the Coyotes fired their best attack percentage for the match with a .353 (15 kills, 3 errors, 34 attacks) in the second.
The third set seemed to belong to the Coyotes, who led 24-21 after a kill from Torline. But CPP answered with five straight points to claim a 2-1 lead through three sets. Zoe Herrera had two service aces and Madison May had two kills in that span.
CSUSB then tied the match at 2-2, but it wouldn't come easy. Six ties occurred in the late stretches beginning at 20-20.
CPP went ahead 26-25 on a Nicoletta Stork kill, but
Tori May tied the match with a kill of her own and with
Kirsten Edgemon serving, CSUSB got two points on a pair of attack errors from CPP and the match went into a fifth and deciding set.
A kill from McIntosh and one from Torline gave CSUSB an 11-10 lead and it extended the lead to 12-10 on a CPP attack error.
But two kills and a block from CPP gave it a 13-12 lead and a block from Christen Williams and Madison May put the set at 14-12.
An attack error from the Broncos cut the lead to one, but CPP's Lauren Jones earned a kill for the set and match winner.
Not since CPP (6-5, 4-4) won the 2005 CCAA championship had the Coyotes lost at home to their foe.

Arielle McCullough's 30 a match high. Christner had 17 with
Ciara Richards 14 and
Ashley Solis 13.
Tori May had two solo blocks and three block assists and Solis had three block assists.
CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night when it faces UC San Diego.
