Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 23, 2014) -- Unranked, but CCAA-leading Sonoma State grabbed control early and derailed No. 15 Cal State San Bernardino 3-0 in CCAA play Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes (13-5 overall, 10-4 CCAA) lost for the first time in six matches in their 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 loss to the Seawolves.
Kaitlyn Christner and
Alexandra Torline each had 10 kills, but no other Coyote had more than six kills. CSUSB was held to a .215 attack percentage.
Christner had four block assists and junior MB All-American
Brenna McIntosh had three.
CSUSB had opportunties to close out the first set and led as late as 22-20 on
Ciara Richards' kill.
But SSU finished the set on a 4-0 run for the set victory.
Ten ties capped the second set and the Coyotes were in the set as late as 16-16.
But a Coyote service error gave sideout to SSU, which then scored five straight points and led 21-17.
The third and final set belonged to the Seawolves, who grabbed the lead on the first point and never trailed.
Kelsey Hull led the Seawolves (14-4, 12-2 CCAA) with a match-high 19 kills and hit .474 for their 10th straight victory.
For CSUSB, senior
Arielle McCullough led her team with 14 digs and became the school's all-time leader in that category, surpassing Megan Haas's total of 1,566 set from 2006-08.
McCullough will take her total of 1,572 into Saturday's home match against San Francisco State.
