Coyotes victory secures 4th winning season in 21 years

Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 19, 2014) -- An opportune goal and solid defense were the recipes for success for the Coyotes in their 1-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon at Coyote Premier Field.

Freshman Tony Lo scored in the 37th minute of play to lift the Coyotes to their fourth straight victory and a monumental victory.

CSUSB improved to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the CCAA, thereby guaranteeing itself a winning regular season for only the fourth time in the last 21 years. The Coyotes have three games remaining until the CCAA Tournament begins Nov 2.

Freshman Jair Magallan worked the ball upfield and fed to Lo, who was on the left side of the Pioneers' GK. He popped in a shot from five yards out and the Coyotes had their lead.

GK Roberto Gonzalez earned his third straight shutout and was aided by his defenders, who helped him out with just two SOG.

Both teams had 14 total shots and the Coyotes fired off four SOGs-- two by Lo.

The Coyotes also fought off 10 Pioneers' corner kicks.

CSUSB returns home next Friday and Sunday with games against Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State, respectively.

GAME NOTES: The Coyotes have moved into position for a CCAA Tourney berth, based off their last four games. CSUSB is tied for fourth with 12 points along with Humboldt State. The top six teams advance to the tourney with on-campus games for the fourth through six seeds. Cal Poly Pomona leads with 24 points and CSULA follows with 21.
