Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Oct 17, 2014) -- CSUSB played one of its finest second halfs of the season and it was the difference in a 1-0 victory over visiting Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA men's soccer Friday afternoon at Coyote Premier Field.
Freshman
Tony Lo scored the game's only goal in the 66th minute to give the Coyotes their third straight victory. They take a 7-4 overall record and 3-4 CCAA slate into Sunday's game against Cal State East Bay.
CSUSB and the Warriors (4-6-3, 2-3-2) played to a scoreless first-half tie as the Coyotes were held to just one shot in the opening 45 minutes.
But the second half was a different story as CSUSB outshot the Warriors 7-0 in the first 20 minutes and Lo made sure No. 7 was the difference.
Diego Mendoza controlled the ball down the left-side of the field and sent a kick that
Daniel Looker then headed. The ball came down to Lo, who was positioned to the left of Warriors GK Clint Long.
Lo poised himself and fired in an open-look shot past Long's left and CSUSB had its lead.
A foul inside the box gave CSUS a chance to tie the game on a penalty kick from Manny Villegas in the 79th-minute. But Coyotes GK
Roberto Gonzalez made a standup save and his teammates made sure the score held up.
Gonzalez had seven saves for his second straight shutout.
CSUS was 0-for-19 on its total shots.
