Box Score ARCATA (Oct. 1, 2014) -- No. 8 CSUSB dealt with a long Wednesday night, losing 3-1 to host Humboldt State in CCAA volleyball.
Five Lumberjacks posted double digits in kills, led by Ashley Owen's 16 in the 26-24, 20-25, 25-21, 25-11 defeat. It was the first time HSU defeated the Coyotes since the 1997 season.
Alexandra Torline led CSUSB (8-3, 5-2 CCAA) with 15 kills, but no other Coyote had more than eight.
The Coyotes led late in the first set (24-23), but HSU strung three straight kills for the winner.
The second set had eight ties until the Coyotes pulled ahead for good after a bad set by HSU.
Ashley Solis produced a kill and an ace for a 17-13 lead.
CSUSB trailed 22-15 and 24-17 in the fourth set. Four straight points by the Coyotes, thanks to three kills from Torline and a block from
Brenna McIntosh closed the deficit to 24-21 before Katherine Rifilato's kill gave the Jacks a 2-1 lead entering the fourth.
But a comeback was not in the making on this night as HSU scored seven straight points for a 12-4 lead and kept momentum on its side.
The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena on Thursday night when they take on Cal Poly Pomona.
HSU is now 8-3, 5-2.
