Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO – The 14th-ranked Coyotes stepped up and finished the Coyote Classic Tournament in style with a resounding 3-0 win over Regis on Saturday night at Coussoulis Arena.
Sophomore
Alexandra Torline had 15 kills as the Coyotes dispatched the Rangers 25-16, 25-24, 25-23 before a crowd of 307.
CSUSB had just 10 attack errors in the match and ended the match at 47 kills and a .280 attack percentage.
Coach
Kim Cherniss' crew never trailed in the opening set, after hitting .333 and holding the Ranges to just .067 on the attack.
Down 19-16 in the second set, CSUSB responded in kind with four straight points thanks to two
Tori May blocks and a two kills from Torline.
The set was tied four times, but at 24-24,
Danielle Newcombe and
Ashley Solis came through with a pair of kills for the win.
CSUSB trailed 16-12 and 21-16 in the third set, but the Coyotes found another gear late and found momentum for the victory.
A Solis kill sparked a 7-1 run capped by two McIntosh aces and two kills from Solis that put CSUSB up 23-22.
After a Regis kill, Solis came through on a kill for a 24-23 lead and the Coyotes won the match on a Regis attack error.

Arielle McCullough had 22 digs.
Seattle Pacific 3, Coyotes 2
The Coyotes opened Saturday against unranked Seattle Pacific and appeared to be in control after winning the first two sets.
But the Falcons stopped the Coyotes in their tracks and rallied for a 3-2 victory (9-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-11).
Senior
Danielle Newcombe led the Coyotes with 12 kills and
Alexandra Torline and
Ashley Solis each had 10.
CSUSB started off on fire, throwing down a .667 attack percentage without an error in establishing momentum in a 25-9 first-set victory.
A pair of Falcons' kills from Ellie Britt cut CSUSB's lead at 22-21, but Solis and Torline each threw down kills and a service ace from
Jordan Ortega gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.
However, SPU grabbed control with an early 5-2 lead in the third set and led by as much as eight on two occasions before winning 25-17.
Down 22-18 in the fourth set, the Coyotes rallied with four straight points – with an assisted block from Torline and
Brenna McIntosh and a kill from Newcombe in that stretch.
After an SPU service error tied the set at 22-22, SPU crept ahead with a kill and a Coyote error. After an SPU error put the Coyotes down 24-23, SPU tied the match at 2-2 with a block.
In the decisive fifth set, a Newcombe kill tied the set at 10-10. But that was as close as CSUSB could get at SPU outscored its foe 5-1 in the final moments.
Freshman
Hannah Liserra had 28 assists and Newcombe, Torline and Ortega each had two service aces. Arielle McCulllough had 19 digs and
Brenna McIntosh had seven block assists.
