Box Score CHICO – The 20
th-ranked Coyotes got hot at the right time and went on to earn a 3-1 victory over host Chico State in CCAA volleyball Friday night.
CSUSB won its fifth straight match and improved to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA. The Wildcats were dealt their first loss of the CCAA and dropped to 6-5, 3-1.
Down 20-18 in the fourth set, CSUSB got rolling and gained momentum for the set and match winner.
The Coyotes received a kill from junior
Tori May, and then went ahead 21-20 on successive kills from sophomore
Ashley Solis.
Senior
Danielle Newcombe ran the streak to four straight with a service ace and another kill from May put the score at 23-20.
Chico State stopped the streak by forcing a Coyote attack error and closed to within a point – 23-22 – on a ball handling error.
Each team traded a point and with CSUSB leading 24-23, sophomore
Alexandra Torline ended the match with a kill.
Sophomore MB
Brenna McIntosh led the Coyotes with 16 kills on a .419 attack percentage. May and Torline each had 13 kills and Solis had 11.
Solis earned a double-double on the night with 13 digs.
Each Coyote setter – senior
Stephanie Sinohui (26) and freshman
Hannah Liserra (25) combined for 55 assists.
Defensively, CSUSB had 80 digs on the night with
Arielle McCullough leading with 22. Senior
Danielle Newcombe had 10.
May stood out on the block with four block assists.
The Coyotes close the weekend with Saturday's match at Cal State Stanislaus.
