Good times roll in Coyotes' 3-0 win over Sonoma State

McIntosh takes command with epic effort

Sophomore MB Brenna McIntosh dominated play Friday night with four solo blocks and three block assists.
Box Score ROHNERT PARK – The No. 22 Coyotes played perhaps their most inspired match in the early going of 2003, taking a 3-0 victory over host No. 18 Sonoma State in CCAA volleyball Friday night.

CSUSB (5-4 overall, 1-0 CCAA) won the 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 on the strength of nearly mistake-free play. It boasted a team .373 attack percentage (46 kills, 8 errors, 102 attacks) for their 33rd straight victory over the Seawolves.

Sophomore Ashley Solis led the Coyotes with 12 kills and added three block assists, but sophomore MB Brenna McIntosh was no match for the Seawolves. She had a whopping four solo blocks, three block assists and added 10 kills without an error.

Sophomore Alexandra Torline was right behind that dynamic duo with 11 kills of her own.

Down 20-17 in the opening set, CSUSB got consecutive kills from senior OH Danielle Newcombe. The set was tied at 21-21 and 22-22 before Solis got a back-to-back kills and after an SSU kill, CSUSB won the set on another Solis kill.

A 4-0 run that gave CSUSB a 12-10 lead that it never let go. The Coyotes led by as many as five (17-12) on a kill from senior S Stephanie Sinohui and remained in front by no less than two points the rest of the set.

Up 9-7 in the final set, CSUSB outscored the Seawolves on a 9-1 run with two solo blocks from McIntosh keying the run.
Sinohui earned the start at setter and responded with 36 assists.

Junior L Arielle McCullough led defensively with 24 digs. Newcombe had four block assists and junior MB Tori May had one solo and three block assists.

CSUSB closes the weekend at San Francisco State on Saturday.

SSU (7-2, 0-1) had three players with 10 kills – Madelyn Densberger, Caylie Seitz and Kelsey Hull.
