CHICO -- The Coyotes fell behind early and could not catch up against the league-leading and No. 5-ranked Chico State Wildcats, falling 6-2 in the series opener Friday night.
The Coyotes (11-18 overall, 5-16 CCAA) look to bounce back in Saturday's doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m.
CSUSB, down 6-0 through five innings, came back with single runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Richard Mount's two-out single through the left side scored
Curtis Cassise, who led off with a single up the middle.
In the eighth,
Jake Pilkerton led off with a triple and came around to score on
Michael Castello's ground-out to second.
Cassise had two of the Coyotes' five hits. They left just two men on base.
Ken Kisell took the loss, going six innings and allowing all six runs on six hits.
