SAN BERNARDINOSteven Chagolla and Curtis Cassise each had an RBI, but the Coyotes came up short in their Sunday series finale against No. 21 Cal State Monterey Bay, losing 4-2 in CCAA baseball at Fiscalini Field.

CSUSB, now 13-23 overall and 7-21 CCAA, returns to Fiscalini Field this week with a four-game series
against San Francisco State that begins at 3 p.m. Friday.

The Otters improved to 26-12, 18-10.

Down 2-0, CSUSB cut the deficit to one in the third inning. With runners on second and third, Curtis Cassise grounded out to short that brought in Colton Johnson, who reached on a one-out single.

The Otters scored in the fifth on an RBI-double by David Garcia and the Coyotes answered with one of their own in the fifth. Steven Chagolla singled to right that brought in Michael Castello, who led off with a single.

CSUMB added an insurance run in the eighth. Nolan Murray scored on a first-and-third situation after he advanced from second to third on a wild pitch and Jesse Olson was caught in a rundown between first and second.

The Coyotes had seven hits, but all were singles.

Four Otters had two hits. Vincent Rasor-Thompson and Garcia each doubled for the only extra-base hits of the game.

Coyotes starter Ruben Rios, this past week's CCAA Pitcher of the Week, threw five innings and gave up 11 hits, three runs – all earned – and struck out three with one walk.
