Pilkerton drives in two in 5-3 loss at Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD -- Jake Pilkerton drove in two runs, but the Coyotes were turned back 5-3 in the opening game of their series against Cal State East Bay in CCAA baseball Friday afternoon.
 
The Coyotes trailed 3-0 through two innings before earning their first run in the third on Pilkerton's ground out to third that scored Remington Miller, who reached on a lead-off walk.
 
The Pioneers answered back with a run in the third and the Coyotes cut the lead to 4-3 with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
 
In the fourth, Andrew Harrison scored on a first-and-third situation and in the fifth, Pilkerton's sacrifice fly to left scored Miller, who reached on an error.
 
Designated hitter Billy Hamilton and Christian Gomez each had two hits as the Coyotes finished with eight hits -- all singles.
 
Coyotes starter LHP Kerry Kelley got the loss in 4 1/3 innings. He had three strikeouts with five walks and gve up three hits.
