Coyotes win Sunday finale, 6-3 over Sonoma State

Miller has three hits, Valentine throws solid 7 innings

ROHNERT PARK -- A five-run second inning provided all the momentum for the Coyotes in their 6-3 win over Sonoma State in CCAA baseball Sunday.

CSUSB, now 11-13 overall and 5-11 CCAA, is off until Thursday, March 28, when they play at Cal State L.A.

The Coyotes batted 10 in the decisive second inning and scored five runs on three hits.

The Coyotes loaded the bases with no walks and scored two runs on bases-loaded walks. A Steven Chagolla run-scoring single scored Aaron Beckley, who reached on a bunt single and CSUSB led 3-0.

Curtis Cassise added an RBI on a fielder's choice to third and the Coyotes scored their fifth and final run of the inning when Billy Hamilton reached first on a fielding error at first, scoring Christian Gomez.

Leading 5-3 in the eighth, the Coyotes added their final run of the day when Jake Pilkerton scored on a fly to right from Colton Johnson that was dropped by SSU.

RHP Taylor Valentine stepped up and earned a win in seven innings. He had four strikeouts, just one walk and allowed eight hits and all three runs.

Brian Jipp faced just four batters in the eighth inning and Matt LeVert earned the save wtih two strikeouts in the ninth.

Remington Miller was 3-for-4 and Pilkerton and Chagolla each had two hits.
