Coyotes drop Sunday finale, 11-6

HAYWARD -- Richard Mount had a solo home run and David Silvas had a pair of hits, but the Coyotes were swept in their four-game series at Cal State East Bay, losing the series finale 11-6 on Sunday.

The Coyotes (9-11 overall, 3-9 CCAA) return to the Bay Area next week with a four-game series at Sonoma State.

CSUEB struck with five runs in the first inning off Coyotes' starter Taylor Valentine and the Pioneers remained in control for the duration. They scored 11 runs on 12 hits and stranded seven runners on base.

Down 5-0, the Coyotes struck with two runs in the fourth, two in the seventh and two in the ninth, but never led.

The Coyotes closed the gap to 8-4 in the seventh. David Silvas scored on a wild pitch and Mount immediately followed with his two-out home run to left.

But the Pioneers responded with two in their half of the seventh to remain comfortably ahead.

Valentine (0-1) took the loss in five innings of work. He had three strikeouts and three walks and gave up seven runs.
