Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO – Offensive production from players such as
Alyssa Flores and
Britney Butler, along with quality pitching from
Kaitlyn Randall were the difference makers Saturday afternoon as the Coyotes swept Cal State Stanislaus 8-5 and 10-9 in CCAA softball.
The Coyotes, who are now 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the CCAA, are on the road this week with games at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Saturday. Cal State Stanislaus is 7-9, 2-6.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, Cal State Stanislaus 5
Alyssa Flores provided the horsepower early with two consecutive two-run home runs and Butler added her first of the season.
Flores ripped a two-run shot in the first and added her other with a homer to center to give the Coyotes a 4-0 lead through three innings.
After CSUS came back with a solo run in the fourth, CSUSB struck with a four-run fourth.
Butler clubbed a three-run homer after pinch-runner
Na'Tavia Lee scored on an error.
Randall threw seven innings and scattered eight hits, but struck out five.
Jacqueline Lopez had three of the Coyotes' eight hits, and Flores was the only other player with multi-hits.
CSUS was led by Lauren Liming, who had a solo homer in the fourth.
Game 2: Coyotes 10, Cal State Stanislaus 9
CSUSB came back from a 9-4 deficit entering its half of the fourth inning.
Butler keyed the fourth with a two-run single that cut CSUS's lead to 9-6.
Victoria Lievanos added an RBI on a double to left that scored
Jamie Leffingwell.
Then in the sixth, the Coyotes took charge with a three-run inning to take the lead for good. Leffingwell got it going when she sent a liner that the shortstop mishandled, scoring Butler.
One batter later, Lievanos' two-run double scored
Monica Ferguson and Lee.
Randall came in for relief of
Taylor Davis in the third. She scattered four hits over her five innings, but settled down, shutting out the Warriors in her final three innings.
Butler led at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and Lievanos and Flores each had two hits.
Amy Droege had four RBI for the Warriors.
