Senior hits three home runs as Coyotes split doubleheader against Cal State Stanislaus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN BERNARDINO – Jamie Leffingwell had a career day at the plate, clubbing three home runs with two of them in the second game as the Coyotes split their doubleheader against Cal State Stanislaus, losing the first game 15-6 and earning the nightcap 10-1.

CSUSB takes a 5-9 overall record and 2-4 CCAA slate into Saturday's series finale.

Cal State Stanislaus is 7-7, 2-4.

Game 1: Cal State Stanislaus 15, Coyotes 6
The Warriors and Coyotes were tied at 6-6 through five innings, but the Warriors struck with nine runs in the sixth and held the Coyotes scoreless in their sixth to win the game by the eight-run rule.

Leffingwell connected on a three-run homer over the left-field wall that tied the game at 3-3 in the second.

The Coyotes grabbed their only lead of the game in the third inning. Monica Ferguson delivered a single up the middle that scored Charlotte Galzote, who reached on a bunt single.

CSUS came back with three runs in the fourth and led 6-4, but the Coyotes answered with a two-run fifth to tie at 6-6.

Ferguson again played the role, this time hitting a two-run double to right center.

But the Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate in the pivotal sixth inning and scored nine runs on 10 hits.

Leffingwell was 3-for-4 with three RBI and Ferguson also had three hits with three RBI.

Alyssa Flores, who hustled to the ballpark as she had an 11 a.m. class, earned the good karma of the day award, going 3-for-4.

Game 2: Coyotes 10, CSU Stanislaus 1
This game was all about timely hitting and quality pitching as Leffingwell finished 3-for-3 with five RBI and two homers, while RHP Kaitlynn Randall threw a three-hitter, striking out three and allowing only an unearned run.

CSUSB took a 1-0 lead through two, courtesy of Ferguson's solo shot to right.

In the third, CSUSB took command with a five-run, three-hit inning.

Leffingwell connected on a two-run homer to center and Victoria Lievanos later scored on a throwing error by the catcher.

After CSUS got its sole run in the fourth, the Coyotes made sure the game would end in their favor as they scored four runs on two hits in the fourth.

Leffingwell delivered a three-run homer after Britney Butler's RBI double.

Butler finished with two hits and two RBI.
