POMONA -- The Coyotes' day began in the mid-morning and ended after sundown, and the end result was a split in Saturday's doubleheader against Cal Poly Pomona.

The Coyotes, who are now 7-2 overall and 2-2 CCAA, step outside of CCAA play this week with a three-game series against Cal Baptist that begins Thursday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.

Game 1: Cal Poly Pomona 11, Coyotes 6
Richard Mount went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, but the Broncos scored five unanswered runs to break a 6-6 tie in the sixth.

Trailing 6-4 entering the sixth, CSUSB tied the score with a two-run, one-hit inning.

Jake Pilkerton's two-out RBI single drove in Curtis Cassise and Mount also scored when the left fielder committed an error.

But the Broncos came back three runs in the sixth and two in the eighth.

Cassise, Mount and Pilkerton all had two hits.

Ruben Rios took the loss. He threw 5 1/3 innings, and allowed eight hits, nine runs -- all earned -- and struck out two with three walks.

Game 2: Coyotes 11, Cal Poly Pomona 10
The Coyotes grabbed control with four runs in each of the first two innings, then needed a three-run seventh to earn the victory.

In the first, Aaron Beckley opened with a walk and after Remington Miller singled, Beckley scored on a passed ball. After Mount was hit by a pitch, Trevor McMaster's RBI-single scored Miller and Mount scored on a Pilkerton single.

Then, Michael Castello sent a sacrifice fly to center that scored McMaster and the Coyotes had their four-run first.

In the second, Cassise and Pilkerton each had RBI-doubles and Miller had a run-scoring single in the four-run second.

In the seventh and ahead 8-6, CSUSB scored three runs on just one hit. David Silvas delivered a two-run single, scoring McMaster and Pilkerton, and Castello scored on a wild pitch.

The Broncos sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh and had a chance to tie, but Donald Walter was called out on a 2-5-3 run down after Jordan Whitman's RBI-single.

Reliever Chris Neff (1-0) earned the win in relief of Taylor Valentine. Neff had four strikeouts and scattered four hits.

Silvas, Pilkerton and Miller all had two hits.
