Coyotes reach 20 wins in victory over Humboldt State

CSUSB remains atop CCAA, improving conference record to 16-1

Box Score SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State San Bernardino's nationally-ranked volleyball team reached another milestone Saturday night, reaching 20 victories in a season for the 17th straight year as the Coyotes defeated visiting Humboldt State, 3-1, at Coussoulis Arena.

In addition, it was the 16th consecutive win over the Lumberjacks since HSU entered the California Collegiate Athletic Association in 2006. The last HSU win over CSUSB in volleyball was 1997.

The Coyotes, 20-5 overall, 16-1 in the CCAA, prevailed 25-19, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-13 led for the second night by sophomore outside hitter Allie Torline who posted 16 kills on .448 hitting. Torline finished the weekend with 37 kills.

CSUSB maintained a two-game lead in the standings over UC San Diego, a 3-2 winner over Cal Poly Pomona.

Sophomore OH Kaitlyn Cristner came off the bench to record 10 kills, three digs and four blocks, two of them solo.

Reserve OH Brittney Paino had four kills in six chances in two of the sets.

Setter Stephanie Sinohui had 45 assists, giving her 96 for the weekend after Cal Poly Pomona extended the Coyotes to four sets before falling 3-1 Friday night. Arielle McCullough's 14 digs gave her 44 for the two matches this week.

The Coyotes hit .283 for the match, holding Humboldt State to .094 and forcing 29 attack errors by the Jacks. Digs were even between the teams at 52 but CSUSB had the edge at the net outblocking the guests 9-3.

Kaitlyn Dunaway had a team-high 13 kills for Humboldt. Teammate Ashley Owen had 12 kills. Setter Sam Siebert had 30 assists. Libero Kelci Renshaw had 14 digs to equal McCullough, her counterpart on the Coyotes.

The Coyotes hit the road next weekend for matches at Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay.
