No. 16 Coyotes roll past Cal State East Bay in three

Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – The one-two punch of Coyotes' sophomore Brenna McIntosh and junior Tori May proved to be too much for visiting Cal State East Bay on Saturday night as No. 16 CSUSB earned a 3-0 CCAA victory at Coussoulis Arena.
 
The middle blocker combination totaled 27 kills between the two of them in the 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 victory. CSUSB has now won its last 10 consecutive matches as it increased its record to 13-4 and remains unbeaten in the CCAA at 9-0.
 
May led with another impressive night on the attack. The Redlands native had 14 kills with only one error in 18 attacks (a .722 attack percentage) and McIntosh was right behind with 13 kills and two solo blocks and two block assists.
 
The opening set had eight ties and three lead changes before CSUSB got in front for good.
 
Tied at 22-22, the Coyotes sealed the lead on a Pioneer attack error. Sophomore Kaitlyn Christner then followed with a solo block and the Coyotes were within a point of taking the set.
 
A Coyote service error cut tthe lead at 24-23, but May delivered with her fifth kill of the set for the winner.
 
McIntosh then stepped up with an impressive second set. The Yorba Linda native led with seven kills and the Coyotes collectively hit .314 (16-5-35).
 
Tied at 14-14, McIntosh blistered three straight kills and the Coyotes remained out front for the win and grabbed the 2-0 lead at intermission.
 
The sweep was complete as May again had five kills in the third set.
 
Coach Kim Cherniss had contributions from 15 squad members.  Senior setter Stephanie Sinohui had 34 assists on the night with three kills. Junior libero Arielle McCullough led the match with 16 digs.
 
Senior Danielle Newcombe added 10 digs with one solo block and two block assists.
 
CSUSB returns to the road this week to conclude the first half of CCAA play. The Coyotes are at Cal State L.A. on Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
 
CSUEB (6-11, 2-7) was led by Samantha Bruno's 10 kills.
