DENVER -- The No. 11 Coyotes snapped their three-match losing streak with a thrilling 3-2 win over Abilene Christian as CSUSB completed play at the Colorado Premier Challenge on Saturday.
Freshman
Ashley Solis led the Coyotes with 20 kills and fellow freshman
Jay Rutledge added 15 in the 21-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-10 come-from-behind win.
Down 2-0, CSUSB took charge in the second set on the strength of 14 kills and a .462 attack percentage. The Coyotes never trailed in the set and pulled away on on a kill from
Brenna McIntosh that gave them a 3-2 lead. CSUSB then earned five straight points with junior
Danielle Newcombe setting.
In set four and tied at 13-13, a block assist from Rutledge and senior
Mercedes Winchester gave the Coyotes the lead for good. Down the stretch and with Winchester serving, the Coyotes fired off five straight points and earned the win.
In the decisive fifth set, the Coyotes never trailed and held a lead as large as six (14-8) on a block from McIntosh and Newcombe.

CSUSB completed the day against a familiar foe in top-ranked Concordia-St. Paul. In a rematch of last season's NCAA title match, the Golden Bears earned a 3-1 win.
Solis and Rutledge led the Coyotes in kills with 16 in the 23-25, 25-23, 16-25, 15-25 defeat.
The Coyotes had 18 block assists wtih Newcombe leading with six, Winchester five and McIntosh four.
CSUSB (3-5 overall) begins CCAA play this Friday when it plays host to Cal State L.A. First serve is at 7 p.m.
