ARCATA
-- The Coyotes received an all-round effort Thursday night in their 3-0 win over host Humboldt State in CCAA volleyball.

The victory improved the Coyotes to 5-6 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA as they return to the court Saturday night at Cal Poly Pomona.

Humboldt State dropped to 2-9, 0-4.

Senior Mercedes Winchester and freshman Alexandra Torline each had 11 kills in the 26-24, 25-22, 25-17 victory.

The Coyotes hit .284 on the attack and were led in assists by senior All-American Camille Smith's 36.

Freshman Brenna McIntosh had a hand on five blocks and sophomore Arielle McCullough had 10 digs.

The opening set was a back-and-forth affair and the host Lumberjacks led late, 23-21 after a Coyotes' service error. But kills from Smith and Winchester and a service ace from junior Danielle Newcombe put the Coyotes out front 24-23.

After an HSU kill, freshman Jay Rutledge threw down a kill and the Coyotes won on a block from Rutledge and McIntosh.
In set two, two teams played to 11 ties until CSUSB again got the upper-hand late.

A kill from McIntosh put the Coyotes ahead 23-22 and Torline and Smith followed with a kill and an ace, respectively, to go out front 2-0.

A 4-0 run after the set was tied at 8-8 gave CSUSB momentum and it never trailed in earning the sweep.

The Coyotes hit .452 in the final set.
