SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior
Britney Butler established the single-season home run record with her 15th as the Coyotes' softball season came to a close Saturday afternoon at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes were defeated 3-0 and 5-4 by No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Coyotes completed their year 18-31 overall and 11-23.
Game 2: CSUDH 5, Coyotes 4
In the second game, the Coyotes grabbed a 4-0 lead on a three-run double by
Alex Mitchell in the second inning. One inning later, Butler clubbed a shot from Toros RHP Stephanie Jimenez and looked like the game was well in-hand.
But the Toros (41-11, 27-7) came back with a three-run fourth off Coyotes starter
Carly Land, then added single runs in the sixth and seventh for the win.
Mitchell had two hits, while Butler,
Courtney Wilhelms,
Alyssa Ramos and
Brittney Ybarra all accounted for the Coyotes six hits.
Game 1: CSUDH 3, Coyotes 0
In the opener, Jessica Hall homered and pinch-hitter Kacy McGinnis added a run-scoring single as the Toros won 3-0.
The Coyotes had just two hits off Jimenez -- singles from Butler and
Alyssa Flores.
The Coyotes honored their three seniors --
Felicia Cervantes, Mitchell and Wilhelms in a postgame ceremony upon conclusion of the doubleheader.
