After losing the opener 6-1 against difficult RHP Samantha Lipperd, the Coyotes faced the steady veteran in Game Two and found themselves trailing 4-0 entering their half of the fourth inning.
That's when the Coyotes kicked things in high gear. They sent 15 batters to the plate, scored 11 runs -- all earned -- after not having a baserunner reach no farther than first base against Lipperd through three innings.
Charlotte Galzote and
Britney Butler reached on consecutive singles, and
Alyssa Flores and
Jamie Leffingwell reached on consecutive walks.
Felicia Cervantes followed with an RBI-single, and freshman
Monica Ferguson delivered a two-roun double to tie the score at 4-4.
Brittney Ybarra followed with a walk and that ended Lipperd's afternoon.
Victoria Lievanos greeted Seawolves reliever Ciara Becerril with an RBI-single and
Alex Mitchell reached on walk. Galzote's second plate appearance in the inning resulted in a run-scoring single. Butler earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly and that brought up Flores.
The Fontana junior ripped a three-run shot over to right center. That finished the Coyotes' scoring for the inning.
SSU featured home runs by four different players -- Shannon Kehr, Vanessa Curie, Keisi Chinen and Megan Konieczka, but it wasn't enough.
The 13-runs for the Coyotes marked their largest output of the season and their most runs scored against Sonoma State since the St. Valentine's Day Massacre of 2004 when the Coyotes won 14-8 on Feb. 14.
It also marked the most runs given up by SSU this season.
