Mack leads Coyotes in 62-49 loss

-- Freshman Alexcia Mack tallied 13 points and teammate Qorreah Joice added 10, but it wasn't enough as the Coyotes' women's basketball team was dealt a 62-49 defeat by Tampa at the UC San Diego Tritons Tournament on Friday afternoon.

CSUSB, now 1-1 overall, faces Azusa Pacific at 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Coyotes grabbed the early lead, but Tampa came answered a 16-13 deficit with a 17-2 run over a seven-minute span in the first half.

The Spartans held a double-digit lead through most of the second half and increased their lead to 22 points with seven minutes remaining in the game.

CSUSB shot 31.7 percent on 19-of-60 shooting. Mack was a bright spot as she hit five of 10 shots and grabbbed five rebounds with two assists and a steal in 31 minutes.

Freshman guard Adriana Brodie led the Coyotes with seven rebounds off the bench.

Freshman Jenna Klein hit two consecutive second-half 3-pointers for her six points.

The Spartans' inside game proved prevalent as they outscored the Coyotes in the paint, 34-16.
