CHICO -- Freshman
Alexandra Torline keyed Cal State San Bernardino with 13 kills and fellow freshman
Brenna McIntosh had eight blocks (six block assists) as the Coyotes defeated host Chico State 3-1 (20-25, 25-12, 25-13, 25-14) in CCAA volleyball Friday night.
CSUSB, ranked fourth in this week's NCAA West Region poll, won its sixth straight and 14th in its last 15 and improved to 17-7 overall and 14-2 in the CCAA. Chico State is 14-9, 8-8 after the loss.
Senior All-American setter
Camille Smith was more than up to the task at her position as she finished the night with a phenomenal .837 assist percentage. She dealt 41 assists in 49 total attempts.
She also reached the 1,000 digs mark in her career with 10 on the night. She needed nine for the weekend and becomes the first setter in Coyotes history to reach that number and only the sixth overall player to hit that number.
After the Coyotes suffered a tough first set loss, they rebounded in a big time way. They led virtually throughout the remainder of the match with just four lead changes in the final three sets.
Ashley Solis and
Mercedes Winchester each had 10 kills, while
Arielle McCullough and
Danielle Newcombe reached
double figures in digs with 17 and 13, respectively.
The Coyotes forced 30 Wildcats attack errors for the win.
CSUSB completes the weekend Saturday at Cal State Stanislaus.
