SAN BERNARDINO -- It didn't take long for the Coyotes to get on track in their Labor Day contest against visiting Academy of Art on Monday.
Senior
Casey Hirsch gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the game's first minute and CSUSB pounded two quick goals before the end of the first half as they went on to rout the Urban Knights 4-0 in nonconference play at Coyote Premier Field.
CSUSB is 2-0 overall as it now prepares for California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Coyotes were in complete control in this contest, outshooting their opponent 14 to 2. In fact, Academy of Art didn't register its first shot of the game until right before the end of the opening half.
With a 1-0 lead, Coyotes' freshmen Tambra Awai and
Diana Enriquez scored goals within 57 seconds before the half. In the game's 42nd minute, freshman
Emily Mardon found Awai in front of the net. Awai went right up the middle and fired the ball past Jessica Bibby and the Coyotes led 2-0.
Then, Enriquez picked up a loose ball on a feed from
Mackenzie Dill and scored and CSUSB led 3-0 with 75 seconds remaining in the half.
For good measure, the Coyotes'
Carissa Kutkowski scored on a loose ball and scored unassisted at the 47th minute.
Junior
Tiffany Mallick earned the win in 63 minutes of work. She did not face a shot. Teammate GK
Chelsey Jones did not face a shot in 26 minutes.
The Coyotes had 10 corners to AA's three and had five fouls.
