Cal State San Bernardino ended September on a happy note Friday with a resounding 6-2 victory over Cal State East Bay, snapping a four-match California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer losing streak dating back to Sept. 16.
The Coyotes exploded for four first-half goals, two of them by sophomore Carissa Kutkowski,  to improve to 3-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the CCAA. The Pioneers dropped to 3-5-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the CCAA.
Junior Jani Carmona, who missed most of the month with an injury, scored her first goal of the season on an unassisted breakaway to make it 5-0 early in the second half. Also scoring for the Coyotes were senior Kristina Gomez, freshman Diana Enriquez and senior Brittany Wilding. Wilding also assisted on two goals while Enriguez assisted on Wilding's goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsey Jones went the distance for CSUSB, saving two shots while yielding two second half goals for her first win of the season.
The Coyotes defense limited East Bay to six shots in 90 minutes. Ariana Gordon, a freshman midfielder, scored both Pioneer goals, one on a crossing pass from Eugenie Foote in the 65th minute and another on a header from a crossing pass from Kara Yamamoto in the 71st minute.
CSUSB is now 3-0-1 at home on the season. The Coyotes host Cal State Monterey Bay at 2 p.m. Sunday.
