SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior midfielder D.J. Vigil scored two goals and sophomore Marco Martinez nailed  the match-deciding goal Friday as host Cal State San Bernardino defeated Cal State East Bay, 3-1, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association men's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.

Vigil broke the ice just 18 minutes into the match, beating the Pioneers' goalkeeper Bryce Bookhamer on a through ball from Martinez for a 1-0 CSUSB lead. Ten minutes later, Martinez one-touched a crossing pass from senior Julian Garcia for a 2-0 advantage.

Just six minutes into the second period, Vigil again scored, running onto a ball served by freshman Gabriel Quintero and beating the keeper with a bullet inside the right post for a 3-0 Coyotes lead.

The Pioneers didn't yield, playing agressively throughout the match, but were unable to penetrate the Coyotes defense. East Bay had just two shots on goal, one saved by CSUSB goalkeeper Tanner Olinger. The other, a 40-yard free kick by sophomore Daniel Borst, sailed high into the net over Olinger's outstretched arms for a goal in the 81st minute.

The victory improved the Coyotes to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA, snapping a two-match losing streak and giving the team its first home victory on 2011. The Pioneers dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-7 in the CCAA.

CSUSB had 13 shots, eight of them on goal. Bookhamer saved five of those scoring attempts.

The Coyotes host Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in another CCAA contest.
