ROHNERT PARK -- Ali Palermo's solo home run in eighth gave the host Sonoma State Seawolves a 1-0 victory over the Cal State San Bernardino softball team in the opener of California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader Friday afternoon.
The Coyotes (11-9 overall, 7-7 in the CCAA) were shut down by Samantha Lipperd, who threw a one-hit shutout.

Britney Butler had the only hit for the Coyotes with an infield single in the fourth. On Butler's single,
Alex Mitchell tried to score from second but was thrown out at the plate.
Mitchell reached third base in the sixth with one out, but was left stranded when
Jacquelyn Holtzclaw flew out and Butler struck out.

Cassidy Lee took the hard-luck loss. She allowed just four hits and struck out three without giving up a walk.
In the second game,
Courtney Wilhelms had a double, but the Coyotes were stopped 5-2.
Trailing 1-0, the Coyotes scored two runs on three hits in the fifth. Wilhelms led off the inning with a double and later scored on Holtzclaw's one-out single to right. With the bases loaded,
Jamie Leffingwell earned the four-pitch RBI with a bases-loaded walk that scored
Carly Land, who reached on a sacrifice bunt.
But the Seawolves (14-5, 11-3) scored four runs on three hits in the sixth and went on to the victory.
Holtzclaw, Mitchell and Flores each singled to complete the Coyotes' four hits.
