SAN BERNARDINO
-- Junior Kristen Huffman showed Wednesday night that she may be a person to keep an eye on for the Cal State San Bernardino women's basketball team.

The junior scored 17 points with 14 rebounds for the Coyotes' first double-double this season in a 71-65 loss to visiting San Diego Christian in nonconference play before a crowd of 115 at Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes (2-5 overall) return to the court Monday night when they take on fifth-ranked UC San Diego. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.

A jump shot from the Hawks' Brittany Daniel gave SDC the lead for good at 17-16 with 12:13 remaining in the first half. The Coyotes trailed 37-26 at halftime and were hampered by hitting 25 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

CSUSB played much better in the second half and twice cut the lead to two. Trailing 44-32 with 14:51 remaining, the Coyotes strung together a 15-5 run to pull within a basket on a free throw from senior Eliza Dy with 9:34 left.

The Hawks responded with four quick points and led 53-47 on Jasmin Thomas' jumper.

But a layup by Briana Baker and another layup by Hoffman again pulled the Coyotes to within two at 53-51 with 6:26 left.

Consecutive 3-pointers from Hannah Miller and Heather Serven and shot from Daniel put SDC ahead 61-51 with 4:16 left and ended any threat from CSUSB.

Huffman's double-double was CSUSB's first since Danielle Shows 10 points/13 rebound-effort against Cal State East Bay last March.

Dy led the Coyotes in scoring with 18 points, hitting 7 of 21 from the field and 3 of 3 from the line. Senior Angela Streets came off the bench with 13 points.

Robinson led the Hawks (8-2) with 18 points as they earned their first victory over the Coyotes in the last eight meetings. It was just the third win for the Hawks in the 15-game series and the first in Coussoulis since Nov. 29, 2003.
